Oyo Deputy Governor Inspects 1.8 kilometers Ajoda Estate Road

The deputy governor of Oyo state, Barrister Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal has inspected the on going road construction at the Ajoda Omituntun estate being constructed by the Oyo State Housing Corporation.

Lawal, who made the inspection on Monday, expressed his satisfaction with the level of work done.

While speaking with newsmen after the his inspection, Lawal noted that the Ajoda new town development scheme was conceived in 1976. But regretted that there has not been any concrete development by successive administration until he was appointed as the chairman of the corporation in 2020.

According to him, beteeen that time and now there have been a lot of encroachment by locals, in fact they started selling lands in the scheme.

“When we took over, we felt the first thing we should do is to put infrastructure in place, for that purpose we awarded a contract in December 2021 for the construction of a 1.82 kilometer road and a layout of 5.5 kilometers of road wherein plots of land will be curved out for allottees.

Lawal who until his emergence as the deputy governor of Oyo state was the chairman of the state housing corporation maintained that his visit to Ajoda estate with the management of the corporation is to see the level of completion of the job done so far, stressing that the 1.82 kilometer, 9 meter wide road which is the main trunk of the road that transverse the estate, has been completed, and the internal road of the estate earth work for the 5.5 kilometers layout road has been completed.

While stressing that the asphalt will be done within the next six months, he said the estate is the flagship of the housing corporation, after the remodelling of the housing Corporation headquarters all within the two years of his appointment.

Lawal explained further that monies expended on the projects embarked upon so far by the housing corporation has been through Internally Generated Revenue(IGR), with no subvention from any quarters.

He opined that the estate at completion will compliment the infrastructural developments of the present administration positively.

He added that the completion of the estate will lessen the housing pressure at the city centre.

It would be recalled that at his emergence as the deputy governor of Oyo state, the housing corporation was one of the ministry and agencies placed under his supervision by governor Seyi Makinde.

Lawal further noted that what has been done so far are the initiative of the corporation, calling on institutional subscribers to come on board to join hands with the corporation to further boost the prospect of the estate.

Management staff who accompanied the Lawal on the inspection of the Ajoda scheme include Elder Ayoade Adekola; Engineer Daniel Ajuwon; Coordinating Director, Mr Kayode as well as Director of Finance and Account and Director of Estate among others.
