Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presesidential candidate, has vowed to complete the over 50years abandoned Mambilla hydroelectric power station, restore security and ensure national unity.
PDP presidential candidate made this promised at a stakeholders meeting held shortly after a rally to welcome opposition stalwarts.
The decampee including the immediate past Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Abdu Sule Katagum; Speaker of Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Suleiman, and over 25,000 defectors to the PDP Wednesday in Bauchi.
Atiku said, “We are gathered here today to rob minds and share ideas on how we come together as people to rescue and rebuild our beloved country, Nigeria, in general, and North East in particular.
“If you elect me as president, first of all, I will make sure that the insecurity in the North East sub region is addressed. Secondly, the Mambilla Hydroelectric Power Station has been on the drawing board for over 50 years and no government has summoned the courage to execute this project. If PDP is elected and I come to be the president, I promise you that the Mambilla hydropower station will be a reality.
“I will restore our agricultural potential in this subregion; we have the best soil in this country, therefore, most of our people are engaged in agriculture. I promise and pledge that if PDP is elected, we will restore agricultural potential.
“Again some of you who are old enough remember that after independence the railways that link up Bauchi to Maiduguri were constructed.
“During our administration between 1999 and 2007, we designed a rail line from Gombe-Adamawa-Taraba to link up with the Eastern rail line. I pledge if the PDP is elected in 2023, this proposal will be implemented.”
