Alex Ferguson backs Ten Hag’s decision on Ronaldo

Sir Alex Ferguson will agree with Erik ten Hag’s stance on Cristiano Ronaldo – if he’s true to his word.

In his 2013 autobiography, Fergie wrote: “The minute a Manchester United player thought he was bigger than the manager, he had to go.”

And on Wednesday evening, Ronaldo made his stance clear as he stormed out of Old Trafford.

United had played Tottenham off the park, but Ronaldo grabbed headlines when he left early. Ronaldo had reportedly refused to come on before he left the pitch before the full-time whistle had blown – and then left Old Trafford shortly afterward.

United released a statement on Thursday: “Cristiano Ronaldo will not be part of the Manchester United squad for this Saturday’s game against Chelsea. The rest of the squad is fully focused on preparing for that fixture.”

While Ronaldo released his own statement: “As I’ve always done throughout my career, I try to live and play respectfully towards my colleagues, my adversaries, and my coaches.
