UPDATED: Oyo Acting Governor attends key NGF meeting alongside 35 Governors

MOUTHPIECE NGR reports that the acting Governor of Oyo State, Barr. Adebayo Abdul-raheem Lawal is currently attending a crucial meeting of Nigerian Governor’s forum holding at the Banquet Hall of Aso Villa,Abuja.

The meeting which is being presided over by the Chairman of Gov’s forum in Nigeria, Dr. Kayode Fayemi is deliberating on the launching of Primary Health Care Leadership challenge.

Also on the agenda of the meeting is the launch of world bank SFTAS sustainability charter.

The government from all over the federation are attending the meeting while those who could not attend are being represented by their deputies.

The marathon meeting which started at 2pm had in attendance the Minister of State for Petroleum Depreye Sylvia and the Minister for Health Pof. Ehinare. 

According to an invitation issued by the Director General of the Forum, Asishana Okauru, on Saturday and sent to all governors, the meeting, the first in 2022, will be an in-person one as opposed to the regular virtual ones.

A statement signed on Tuesday by the Forum’s Director of Media and Public Affairs, Abdulrazaque Bello-Barkindo, indicated that the state of Nigeria’s economy and security ‪will be top-of-agenda at the meeting.

The meeting comes weeks after the governors suggested 33 ideas for the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to implement to salvage the nation’s economy.

Barkindo noted that the NGF is concerned about the economic hardship that has bedeviled Nigerians under the regime.

“Several governors reasoned that it is high time to tell each other the bare truth by confronting each other on the situation and brainstorming on it. This formed the basis for resorting to an in-person meeting which since the outbreak of the Covid 19 pandemic been relegated by the states’ executives,” the statement read.

At the time of this report, at least 25 governors were in attendance some of whom were presented by their deputies.

They include the governors Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, Babagana Zulum of Borno, Bala Mohammed of Bauchi, Godwin Obaseki of Edo, Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe, Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa, Simon Lalong of Plateau, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara, Hope Uzodinma of Imo, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, Dave Umahi of Ebonyi and Gboyega Oyetola of Osun.

Also in attendance are the Deputy Governors of Kogi, Edward Onoja, Moses Ekpo of Akwa Ibom, Cecilia Ezeilo of Enugu and Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo of Bayelsa.

Meanwhile, President Buhari was not spotted at the meeting.
