Flood destroys food items, 350 houses, in Sokoto

MOUTHPIECE NGR reports that flood has destroyed food items and 350 houses at three communities in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

Abubakar Ghani, the spokesperson for the state emergency management agency, has confirmed the development.

He confessed that several people have been rendered homeless in the area.

He said the incident happened over the weekend, adding that the affected villages include Shiyar Ajiya, Makers and Runji.

Alhaji Zabairu Magaji, the Special Adviser to Governor Aminu Tambuwal, who supervises the agency, revealed that 250 houses were destroyed in the three communities.

He said downpour was the cause of the flood.

He revealed that no life died during the disaster but several food items were wasted by the flood.

He has symphatized with the people of the affected area and gave them the assurance that the state government would provide relief materials to them as soon as possible.

The vice chairman of the local government area, Ibrahim Lawal, has thanked the state government for identifying with the victims at the trying time.

He has also appealed for timely provision of relief materials to the victims many of whom he said had been rendered homeless and without food to eat.
