You’re not covered from legal consequences – NYSC warns corps members

Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Fadah, the Director-General of NYSC, has advised corps members to stay away from wrongdoings wherever they go.

The DG said the corps members have no immunity from legal consequences.

He made this revelation on Tuesday at Wailo, Ganjuwa Local Government Area, during the closing ceremony of the Batch B Stream 1 orientation course for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members sent to Bauchi State.

“Remember that your membership of the service corps does not confer on you immunity from the legal consequences of any wrongdoing.

“I, therefore, enjoin you all to continue to be law-abiding citizens while also serving as role models for the younger ones,” he said.

The State NYSC Coordinator, Namadi Abubakar, has on behalf of the DG, called on employers to welcome corps members directed to them and make necessary provisions for their welfare.

He also implored them to mentor the corps members to make them develop potential.

“I also call on other stakeholders, including state and local government authorities as well as traditional rulers, to give necessary encouragement to the corps members,” Fadah added.

He reaffirmed that the scheme does not support unauthorised journeys and night trips, saying that “travelling at night will not only increase the risk of accidents but also make rescue difficult.

“You are therefore advised to always cut short your trips from six o’clock in the evening and pass the night at NYSC Lodges, military barracks and other locations officially designated as safe”.

Fadah thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for his unwavering support for the NYSC.

He also thanked governments at state levels, local councils, security personnels and the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19, NCDC, traditional monarchs and other stakeholders for their support over the years.
