Police presents N2.5m welfare scheme to families of late officers

The Commissioner of Police in Zamfara State, Mr Ayuba N. Elkanah has given the sum of two million, five hundred thousand naira to families of five deceased police officers who lost their lives in active service.

The command’s spokesman, SP Mohammed Shehu, has via a signed press statement in Gusau, the State capital, has said the presentation of the cheques was in continuation of the IGP’s welfare Insurance scheme to families of deceased Police officers.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Finance and Administration, DCP Olubenga Adepoju has represented the CP.

“The Commissioner of Police appreciates the Inspector General of Police for his concern for the welfare of Police officers.

“The CP described the gesture as timely and it will go along way in alleviating the suffering being faced by families of deceased police officers and further assures the IGP that officers and men of the command will continue to put in their best in the discharge of their duty for sustained peace, security and safety of Zamfara State,” he said.

According to the statement, the CP has charged the beneficiaries to use the money judiciously, noting that, “in the last 10 months, the Command had received similar cheques from the Inspector General of Police ten times and presented same to the beneficiaries.”

One of the families of the beneficiaries, Favor Peter, who spoke on behalf of other beneficiaries, appreciated the Inspector General of Police for the gesture and said they would use the money judiciously.
