Girl jumps from four-storey building to avoid being flogged by guardian

A 14-year-old girl, Ijeoma Nwafor, was reported to have jumped down from a four-storey building to escape being flogged by her guardian.

MOUTHPIECE NGR has gathered that the incident occurred in Awada, in Onitsha, Anambra State.

A source said the girl is a housemaid to a woman, who’s identified as Nnenna Onwanna.

Report has it that Onwanna was used to maltreating the girl at every slight opportunity.

The girl reportedly survived the jump and has been hospitalized in an undisclosed area in Onitsha.

“They live on the fourth floor of a house in Awada, and she was beating her on Saturday when she ran out of the house, and in a bid to escape, she jumped down from the four-storey and landed on the fence, fitted with security wires.

“She, however, survived as she was pulled out by some residents of the area and was promptly rushed to the hospital for medical attention.”

The police authorities in the state, while confirming the incident, said that the woman has been arrested.

The spokesperson of the police in the state, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga while confirming the incident said the girl was dragged down by her guardian and she called it a case of attempted murder.

Ikenga said: “The Anambra State Police Operatives at about 4pm on 2/7/2022 have arrested one Mrs Onwanna Nnenna (F) aged 29yrs old from Nando, Anambra East in a case of attempted murder that happened at Otu street, Awada, Onitsha.

“Preliminary information shows that the victim, one miss Ijeoma Nwafor (F), 14year old, a native of Achalla was pushed down from a four-storey building by the suspect when she was beating her. Other details reveal that the victim is a house help to the suspect.”

The image maker of the police in the state, said Mrs Nnenna is currently in the custody of the police.

He said the victim is getting treated in a hospital, and that further development on the incident will be communicated.
