First female SAN visits Oyo Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal

The First Female Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Chief Folake Solanke, has congratulated the former Chairman of Oyo Housing Corporation, Barrister Bayo Lawal on his appointment as Deputy Governor of Oyo State.

Solanke, who visited the Deputy Governor on Thursday, at his office in Agodi Secretariat, described him as an icon whose exploits in the legal profession have become a beacon and exemplary example to others.

She saluted his commitment and dedication in keeping and promoting the values of the legal profession and bequeathing an enduring legacy even for the coming generation.

“Adebayo Lawal is my professional colleague. We are very happy he was invited to come and act. And it is part of his solidarity during his profession.”

“Wherever we are, we are lawyers. And we should have the foundation. When the law fails, the nation fails. So to have Adebayo Lawal, it is a matter that it is professionally pleasing to all of us. We know that he will bring on value and talent to represent us again.”

She noted that Bayo Lawal did wonderfully well when he was serving as Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General in 1999, during Lam Adesina led administration.

She urged the Deputy Governor not to lose focus in his quest for good governance, saying it is only the law that can save us in a country where even the head of state is also threatened.

“We congratulate the Deputy Governor for his appointment and we know he’s going to deliver. What he did 22 years ago would surely be brought on board”, she said.

While expressing his appreciation, the Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal, maintained that one can wish away Mama Solake achievements as the First Female Senior Advocate of Nigeria, and the first female commissioner of the Western state.

“Mama chooses where to go. Like we all know her, she couples a lot of things together and say that, this is where I want to go, I don’t want to go here. For her to have paid me a courtesy visit, tells a lot. It is a privilege to have her.”

“At the age of 90, Mama is still agile. Even at the Oyo State High Court valedictory session held in honor of justice Olajumoke Idowu Aiki, who bowed out of active judicial service, stood up during her speech. It is part of her duty as a profession.

“Words are not just enough to express our gratitudes. We will continuously tap from her wealth of knowledge of love and public services”, he added.
