All our efforts to end banditry have failed – Nigerian governor laments
Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Mohammed Matawalle has told members of the State to use the avenue of the EID EL Kabir celebration to pray for peace in the state.
Matawalle, while appealing to Muslim faithful to pray for divine intervention, and confessed that every effort by his government to end violence and banditry in the state had failed.
He accepted that no meaningful thing can be achieved in the state if there is no peace.
“Peace and harmony are the bedrocks of any meaningful development. And we all must join forces to ensure that these criminal elements are pushed out of the whole system,” he added.
He said his administration has inherited the ugly scenario, and therefore appealed to members of the state, to play some good roles to ensure that security and socio-economic crisis that the banditry activities had caused come to an end.
The Governor made this revelation at Maradun town, his country home, where he celebrated EID EL Kabir.
He called on members of the state, irrespective of religious and political differences, to support his administration to combat common enemies.
“We have implemented various security measures, established so many security committees but all to no avail,” he said.
He revealed that only divine intervention remains the solution.
