Unknown gunmen kill 11 farmers in Sokoto community

Some gunmen who were suspected to be bandits, Saturday, in Sokoto, reportedly murdered 11 farmers in the Ghandi district of Rabah Local Government Area of the state.

A source said the attackers invaded the community around 12 noon, shot sporadically, to frighten people and later murdered farmers who were working on their farms.

Tukur Muhammad, the Secretary to the District Head of Ghandi, while confirming the information on Saturday, disclosed that the invaders tackled them on their farmlands and killed them without any justification.

He revealed that the bandits planned to kidnap some farmers but the vigilantes obstructed their plans.

He added that eight of the farmers were murdered at Kuryar village and three in their neighbourhood.

“They don’t want us to work on our farm. They attack our farmers on daily basis. They also asked other villages to pay a levy before they can cultivate their farms and this is the only means of livelihood in our area,” he said.

The spokesperson of the police in the state,
DSP Sanusi Abubakar, told newsmen he was in transit but he would revert as soon as he gets details about the incident.
