Train Attack: Reps challenge Buhari to rescue 51 captives

The House of Representatives yesterday told President Muhammadu Buhari to facilitate the freedom of the remaining 51 Nigerians kidnapped in the Abuja-Kaduna train attack.

The Green Chamber has charged the president to secure the release of all other Nigerians in the captivity of the bandits and terrorists across the country.

It told the number one citizen of the country to set up a high-power inter-agency panel to direct efforts and effect the freedom of kidnapped victims across Nigeria.

This was as a result of the motion adopted by Hon. Bamidele Salam (PDP Osun), Julius Ihonvere (APC Edo), Mansur Manu Soro (APC Bauchi) and seven others.

The lawmakers revealed that the people would lose confidence in government if the situation is not addressed on time.

They said the situation may encourage criminals to advance their acts of criminality and put the stability of the country in danger.

Salam brought the people back to memory lane as he unveiled unresolved cases of kidnappings in the country, which include the remnant of 2014 kidnapped Chibok girls, Leah Sharibu in February 2018, the Islamiyya school students kidnapped in Niger State on 30 May 2021, the Bethel Baptist High School Kaduna students kidnapped on July 5, 2021 and the students of Federal Government College Birnin Yauri students kidnapped on 21 October, 2021.
