Terrorists gunned down villagers, set houses on fire in Benue

The terrorists reportedly invaded the community at about 4am on Sunday and shot sporadically at the villagers.

Almost all buildings of the village were reportedly set on fire.

The villagers revealed that at least 11 corpses had been recovered while efforts were ongoing to find the remaining persons.

Chairman of Okpokwu LGA, Amina Audu, however, told journalists that three corpses have been received at Okpoga, the local government headquarters, while another six were received from Igama village.

The chairperson narrated that the terrorists operated in the vicinity for about two hours, between 4am and 6am, affirming that all the houses in the community were set on fire.

The chairman further revealed that only the youth were victimized by the terrorists while the elderly and women were freed.

“I’m right now at the Police station in Okpoga awaiting the corpses, soldiers and other security men are here with me,” she said.

The spokesperson of the police in the state, SP Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident.

“The incident is confirmed but the command is yet to receive details from officers who went to the scene,” she said in a text message.
