Longest serving Emir in Zamfara dies at 93

Alhaji Ahmad Umar, who’s the longest-serving monarch in Zamfara, the Emir of Kwatarkwashi in Bungudu Local Government Area of the state, died on Thursday 9th June, 2022.

Alh. Kabiru Balarabe, has via a statement made available to newsmen in Gusau, the state capital, revealed that the deceased traditional ruler was lost to a prolonged illness.

He said Umar has been buried according to Islamic rites.

Recall that the deceased monarch was crowned by Sultan Abubakar III on March 17, 1961, and had ruled his kingdom for 61 years.

In March 2021, the traditional ruler celebrated his 60th year on the throne in an elaborate manner, and this was well attended by prominent monarchs of northern extraction including the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III.
