Lagos gov, Sanwo-Olu approves increase in public transport fare

Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has welcomed and approved an increase in bus fares for all Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and Standard Routes with effect from July 13.

The increment of N100 has been placed on the public transport system of the state.

The Assistant Director, Corporate Communication, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), Mr Kolawole Ojelabi, made this revelation via a statement on Thursday.

He revealed that the increase was to ensure that the activities of public transport service in the state are sustained and the increase is expected to take effect on July 13.

“These measures are indispensable in the current global economic and environmental reality to ensure the sustainability of the BRI operation.

“With the increase, a bus ride from Ikorodu – TBS will now cost N600 from N500 while Berger to Ajah is now N700, up from N600.

“Oshodi to Abule Egba will cost N450 from N350 and Abule-Egba-CMS-Obalende will attract a fare of N600.”

Ojelabi revealed that the state governor, while welcoming the idea of the fare increase, also gave his approval to a proposal for a bail out for the bus operating companies.
