Islamic group lambasts lawyer, Omirhobo, for wearing full traditional attire to Supreme Court

An Islamic rights organisation, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has criticized the manner a lawyer, Malcolm Omirhobo, proceeded to the Supreme Court on Thursday in an attire of a traditional doctor.

MOUTHPIECE NGR had earlier reported that a Lagos-based human rights lawyer, Malcom Omoirhobo caused a stir in the Supreme Court, Abuja, on Thursday when he appeared in the full traditional attire of an “Olokun priest” to attend court proceedings.

The legal practitioner said his action was a reaction to the Supreme Court judgment that grants female Muslim faithful freedom to proceed to schools in hijab in Lagos.

The Islamic organization said the behaviour of the legal practitioner was contemptuous of the Supreme Court pronouncement and an attempt to reduce the noble profession of law.

The position of MURIC was made via a statement publicized, Saturday, 25th June, 2022 by its director, Professor Ishaq Akintola.

The organization confessed that it was not surprised by the lawyer’s behavior, referencing past personal record of proceeding to the “court over the existence of Arabic letters on naira notes; challenging the use of Arabic on army logo; and suing the Nigerian Police for approving hijab for police women in Nigeria.

“Omirhobo has behaved to type. If he has his way, he would have every single Muslim Shugabad out of Nigeria. He hates the sight of Muslims, their Qur’an and the language of that Holy Book, Arabic. His hatred reached boiling point when the highest court in the land approved the use of hijab for female students,” the group said.

“This pushed him to the extreme behaviour which millions of Nigerians saw him manifesting on television yesterday.”

The organization added that the lawyer should have displayed his action in his private domain instead of taking his anger and frustration to the open space.
