Gunmen kidnap Catholic priest in Edo

Unidentified gunmen on Sunday morning kidnapped a Catholic priest in Ikabigbo community, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State,

The gunmen stormed the victim’s residence and whisked away the Catholic priest who’s popularly addressed as Rev. Father Osia, as he was getting set for Sunday Mass.

A source in the community who chose to address the press as an anonymous, revealed that the community vigilante group have since swung into security action to effect the rescue of the priest.

The source said the gunmen had shot one of the community boys who was looking for the catholic father, affirming that the victim has been hospitalized for necessary treatment.

The traditional monarch of the community, Bramah Alegeh has explained that they are making efforts to secure the release of the Catholic Priest.

He further added that the soldiers alongside the local vigilante were conducting security search in the bush to effect the release of the cleric.

The spokesperson of the police command in the state, SP Chidi Nwanbor, has made a promise to get back as soon as he gets details about the incident.
