Governor sets to upgrade college of education to university level, sets up 11-man committee

Governor of Osun State, Gboyega Oyetola has constituted an 11-man Implementation Committee as a follow-up to the upliftment of the College of Education, COE, Ilesa to a full-fledged university.

The 11-man committee that’s headed by Professor Olu Aina, is to craft an academic brief and physical master plan for the new varsity.

In the Committee are former Health Minister, Prof. Isaac Adewole; former Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University, Prof. Labo Popoola, former Vice-Chancellor of Tai Solarin University, and Prof. Yemisi Obilade; and founder, Lead University, Ibadan, Prof. Jide Owoeye.

Also in the committee are the Managing Director, Saroafrica International, Mr. Olakanmi Rasheed Sarumi; Associate Prof. Wasiu Oyedokun; the Chief of Staff to Governor Oyetola, Dr. Charles ‘Diji Akinola; Osun Commissioner for Education, Folorunso Bamisayemi; Osun Finance Commissioner, Bola Oyebamiji; and Osun Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Femi Akande.

The Governor via a signed statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ismail Omipidan, revealed that the Committee will also interact with the State House of Assembly towards the legality of establishment of the new university.

The committee is to also engage the National University Commission, NUC, to ease the approval and express the internal charter of the proposed university.
