EXCLUSIVE: APC stakeholders pick Akala’s son as Reps candidate

Indications emerged on Thursday that some stakeholders of All Progressives Congress in Ogbomoso zone have unilaterally picked son of late Governor of Oyo State, Otunba Alao Akala as the party candidate for House of Representatives in 2023 general election. 

Olamijuwon Alao Akala was picked ahead of Hon. Jacob Ajao who is currently representing Ogbomoso North, South, Orire Federal constituency. 

A source within APC revealed to Mouthpiece NGR that Olamijuwon’s name was penned down at a stakeholders meeting held at Brymo House on Wednesday. 

It was leant that stakeholders at the meeting announced the name of LMJ as the preferred choice while Hon. Wumi Oladeji also secured a third term ticket ahead of the primaries slated Thursday. 

Senator Fatai Buhari who had earlier aspired for the position of governorship got a third term ticket for Oyo North Senatorial district while Hon. Odebunmi Bunvic will also be representing Surulere/Ogo-Oluwa for the forth term. 

The development which has continued to generate a mixed reactions among party members is increasingly getting tougher for the All Progressives Congress in the zone. 

Speaking on Thursday evening , a close source in Olamiju’s camp who pleaded on condition of anonymity said all APC stakeholders in Ogbomoso zone have agreed to vote for Olamiju on Thursday. 

He also said the son of Maigida was also picked as preferred choice in Ogbomoso South for State House of Assembly. 

The source who faulted the claims of ‘imposition’ by supporters of Hon. Jacob Ajao’s camp on social media, reiterated that Captain was also a product of imposition for House of Representatives in 2019. 

When contacted, a close source to Hon. Ajao who spoke in confidence said delegates are being threatened by the stakeholders to cast their vote only for LMJ on Thursday. 

According to him, the stakeholders at the meeting on Wednesday said the names of preferred candidates have already been collated for final submission, threatening that their vote against LMJ on Thursday won’t hold water. 

Our source also revealed that Senator Teslim Folarin may also clinch the party gubernatorial ticket as preferred by Vice President Osinbajo who is said to be in control of Oyo APC. 

“Whether Hon. Ajao will decamp or not is still undecided but there are pressures from both SDP and ADP to fly their ticket”, the source added.
