2023: Zoning arrangement made Iyorchia Ayu PDP Chairman— Dare Adeleke backs South for Presidency

Oyo PDP Chieftain, Dare Adeleke has strongly condemned the party’s decision to jettison the zoning system.

Adeleke in a statement released in Ibadan Thursday said “the party has inadvertently, gone against the wishes of majority of its members and that will not augur well for the unity and cohesion needed for the desired goal and the pulse of the general.”

Adeleke stated further: “It is highly regrettable that the PDP at this time, has decided to shun zoning.

Considering the fact that zoning arrangement made Iyorchia Ayu National Chairman, It was our expectation that the South should be given Presidential Slot, without any zoning formula applied.

It is unfortunate that Ayu who benefitted from zoning with the expectation that if the north gets the national Chairmanship, the south would logically be given the presidency.

“Our party, the PDP is known for fairness and equity. Over the years, we have given each zone a fair chance at all times, I wonder what has changed especially now that all compasses to the presidency are pointed southwards.”

Adeleke wonders why the party leaders took the decision to throw the presidential race open.

“If we have had 16 leaders till date and only 6 are from the south, it is only normal that the position rotates to the south again and that is what the people want.”

“I really hope this decision will not turn around to hunt our great party”.

“I would urge everyone to now throw their weight behind a southern candidate.

I strongly stand on Southern Presidency”, he concluded.
