Campus Gist: LAUTECH SUG marks 100 days office 

Greatest Ladokites!!!

On November 19, 2021, on a beauteous Friday, I was sworn into administration over the Student Union Government of the prestigious Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) with the mandate to ARISE a new LAUTECH and today marks exactly 100 days since this great hallmark. It is an irrevocable truth that this singular hallmark has birthed several great achievements. Several golden opportunities, benevolence, and amazing situations have been established through this administration.

The advent of TEAM ARISE into the administration of the LAUTECH SUG 2021/22 was heralded by the facilitation of bursary awards worth #100,000 each to 11 LAUTECH students from Obokun/Oriade LGA, Osun State who were present at the 15th LAUTECH Alumni Lecture by the Guest Lecturer, Hon. Oluwole Oke. This event represented the start of the Academic Welfarism as promised.

On Monday, December 6, 2021, we took alacritous ardent steps to boycott the unlawful arrest of two LAUTECH students by the UBA LAUTECH Branch and the demand for their immediate release from Nigeria Police Special Fraud Unit, Ikoyi, Lagos which yielded the desired result.

On Tuesday, January 4, 2022, the LAUTECH Bike Riders transportation system was reformed and SUG transport uniforms were distributed to the LAUTECH Bike Riders. In the same manner, On Sunday, January 16, 2022, the tricycle riders’ transportation system was also reformed and SUG transport uniforms were also distributed to the tricycle riders. These were in fulfillment of the Security and Renovation as promised.

The festive periods, most particularly the yuletides of all, are usually hectic, clumsy, and financially crippling, most particularly for students who want to travel back home. The 2021 yuletide was a different one for LAUTECH students as the Student Union eased the tediousness by organizing ARISE Ride which reduced the cost of transport and eased the transport discomfort for students who traveled on Thursday & Friday, December 23 & 24, 2021. This is in fulfillment of the Innovation as promised.

During the previous yuletide, Fidelity Bank Plc represented by Mr. Adebayo Adeyinka, the Executive Technical Assistant to the MD Fidelity Bank Plc and an Ex-LAUTECH Students’ Union President for 1999 set for the progress and empowerment of the students at large donated 20 hp laptops and 30 hp desktops for Mechanical Engineering Department. Mr. Adebayo Adeyinka, being a graduate of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, on this same day, Thursday, December 30, 2021, we also facilitated a bursary of #100,000 for the best graduating student (BGS) of the department for the next 10 years. This also fulfilled the promise of Academic Welfarism and Empowerment.

On Sunday, January 2, 2022, we published a Step-By-Step Guidelines for 2021/22 Fresher’s Registration flier for circulation to provide directions and ease of registration for freshers. The SUG commenced a tutorial for the freshers which also fulfilled the promise of Academic Welfarism.

On Monday. January 10, 2022, we achieved the implementation of the reduction of tuitions fee of all undergraduates by 25% as promised by Governor Seyi Makinde. This is a record-breaking milestone in the history of LAUTECH Unionism as it brought financial ease to all students both Indigenous and Non-indigenous students. All thanks to the State Governor and the labors of the past icons. 

On Monday, January 24, 2022, in another of our bid to fulfill the promise of Academic Welfarism, we partner with BibloFoundation to award a Grand Tuition Fee Scholarship to two students; Oyebode Feranmi, a 300L of Urban & Regional Planning Department and Gbadamosi David, a 200L student of Computer Science.

On Wednesday, January 26, 2022 we requested an increase in the Annual LAUTECH Alumni Scholarship Program for students across all levels in a proactive discussion with Hon. Solomon Onilede, the president of LAUTECH Alumni Global. This request was approved after it was considered worthy.

On Thursday, February 10, 2022, an open letter was addressed to Governor Seyi Makinde saying a firm no to the proposed renaming of LAUTECH in the common interest of the student populace.

Just recently, on Friday, February 18, 2022, Team LAUTECH emerged as the 2022 Winner of All-Nigerian Universities Quiz Challenge in the 2022 Winner of All-Nigerian Universities Quiz Challenge & Debate competition held at theUniversity of Ilorin. This projected this prestigious institution, LAUTECH as a citadel of academic excellence.

It’s exactly 100 days today since we took over the administration of the Student Union Government of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso and remarkable things have happened. A lot has been achieved and yet, there’s more to come.

We can assure you with all surety that we have even more to offer. The aim is to leave the Union far better than how we met it and to create a new path for others coming.

Together we will achieve more to ARISE the new LAUTECH of our dream.
