Tanker kills one, crushes three cars, motorcycle in Abuja

A tanker laden with fuel has crushed three cars and a motorcycle at Gada Biu village along Abuja-Keffi expressway after losing its breaks on Saturday.

Though one person died in the accident, while three others were injured, the three cars reportedly caught fire out of the nine vehicles involved in the accident.

The Federal Safety Corps Education Officer, Bisi Kazeem, confirmed the incident on Sunday.

He said, “The tanker rammed into three cars and a bike which caught fire but the tanker did not catch fire. Three persons were taken to the National Hospital with varying degrees of injuries while one person was presumed dead. Nine vehicles were involved in the crash altogether.”

Meanwhile, the Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi, has solicited the support of the World Bank to enhance the FRSC’s operational activities through capacity building on data management support for newly established local government station officers, paramedics, and fleet renewal.

This, Oyeyemi said, would assist the corps in realising its corporate mandate.

Oyeyemi made the request during a virtual meeting with the World Bank Transport Lead, Dr Soasemos Job, World Bank Road Safety Specialist, AK Farhad, Consultant World Bank Nigeria, Chukwudi Ikejiani, and others, on the ‘Impact of the World Bank on safety management: The Nigeria safe corridor project experience.’
