“Vacate site”— Makinde orders contractor handling Ibadan circular road

The Oyo State government has asked the contractor handling the Ibadan circular road to stop all activities on the construction.

The state government urged the contractor to vacate the site with immediate effect.

Mouthpiece NGR understands that the vacation order followed an initial notice of termination of the contract issued on August 31st, 2020.

The 32.2km road was awarded in May 2017 during the administration of late Abiola Ajimobi.

The construction commenced in September 2017 and was scheduled to be completed by 18th March 2019 before the official contract termination order.

The Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Professor Dahud Sangodoyin on the orders of Governor Seyi Makinde has, however, urged the contractor to vacate the site.

Sangodoyin who visited the construction site announced the vacation order on Thursday.

He restated the state government’s stance and urged the contractor to evacuate the construction site.

Sangodoyin added that the services of the contractor were no longer needed, as reflected in the disengagement letter.

He said the consortium’s contract was terminated after the progress of work was highly unsatisfactory within the timeframe of the contract.

He maintained that the work completed was below 10% after over three years of contract award and over one year after the expected day of completion.

“The circular road is part of the development agenda of governor Makinde, so we won’t abandon it but we have terminated the contract with the contractor on the job and we are going to open another phase to award to a competent contractor.”
