Ogbomoso South LG Chair wages war against HIV/AIDS

Caretaker Chairman, Ogbomoso South local government area, Hon Oyedokun Oyeniyi Timothy has disclose his readiness to reduce mother to child transmission of HIV/AIDS in Ogbomoso South local government.

Oyedokun made this known on the occasion of the commemoration of the World Aids Day, December 1, every year, set aside by the World Health Organisation (WHO) to create awareness on the dangers posed by HIV/AIDS.

He said “Despite efforts and progress made in reducing the scourge of HIV/AIDS, Nigeria is still holding the unenviable position of the country with the most HIV-infected babies in the world.

“The high rate of mother to child transmission in Nigeria highlights major gaps in HIV testing. This allows HIV infections to go untreated and the virus to spread.”

The LG boss added that, “Engr Seyi Makinde’s led administration in Oyo State is improving the healthcare system to provide quality and affordable health care services to all her people.

“And as a Caretaker Chairman, I have the mandate of ensuring basic and primary healthcare to citizens and residents of Ogbomoso South LG. 

“We will tap from the resources provided by the state government and ensure that  people living with HIV/AIDs, and those who are vulnerable and affected are taken care of and are not stigmatised”. he said.

Furthermore, he added that his administration will replicate the success recorded during the campaign against Covid 19 in Ogbomoso South with campaign against the spread of HIV/AIDS most especially mother to child transmission.

However, he called on all and sundry to go to the nearest healthcenter to test themselves.
