Hours after Nigerian President’s arrival, bandits abduct scores of students in Katsina

Bandits Friday night invaded Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State and kidnapped scores of the students, THISDAY has reported.

It was learnt that the bandits had operated at the Kankara town where they abducted some people before finally invading the boarding school at about 10:06 pm Friday.

This is coming barely 48 hours after the arrival of President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, his hometown for a week-long private visit.

It was reliably gathered that the scenario forced the remaining students, who survived the invasion, to vacate the school in the night as parents were said to be busy searching for their children up till Saturday morning.

The bandits riding on motorcycles, according to a credible source in the school, came in large numbers and started shooting sporadically.

He said: “They abducted many of our students who were inside their hotels. I cannot say how many people were kidnapped, but they went away with many students.

“As we speak this morning (Saturday), our remaining students had left the school and their parents are here with us trying to know their whereabouts,” he said.

Meanwhile, as of the time of filing this report, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Gambo Isah, could not be reached.
