Why Governor Makinde is a man of humility — John Oke
A Member and Full-Time Commissioner of Local Government Service Commission, Hon. John Adisa Oke has described the governor of Oyo state, Engineer Seyi Makinde as a man of humility for taking courage to say sorry amidst spontaneous attack from opposition parties and some people of Oyo state over PDP southwest unification rally.
Mouthpiece NGR learnt the Governor was criticized regarding the situation of coronavirus in the state for holding unification rally at a period the country is taking precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the deadly disease.
On Wednesday, the Governor took responsibility for the lapse in judgment that led to the unification rally of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ibadan at Mapol hall.
According to the governor, his administration acted based on the information they had at that moment but accepted that the rally should not have held.
“I have received your complaints about the rally that was held yesterday, and I feel obligated to state in clear terms that we acted based on the information we had at that time. In retrospect, it should not have happened and I take responsibility for that lapse in judgment.”
Assuring the people that his administration is doing everything within its powers and working with agencies of the Federal Government to prevent the spread of the virus, Governor Makinde reiterated that at the moment his administration had set up the Oyo State COVID-19 Task Force which he’s going to lead.
Speaking with Mouthpiece NGR, Hon John Oke laud the Governor for displaying that he’s humble and man of the people.
He said “We have many people that are not a governor or billionaire that can not tender apology for any action taken directly or indirectly”.
“When you say sorry, it doesn’t mean that you are wrong. It just means that you value the person or people and the relationship more than being right.”
“You have to chose what do you want; being right or love? And if you want love, sometimes you have to say sorry, even if you are right.”
“In Nigeria, some one should remind me when one politicians or APC Governors and in fact, Mr President himself ever said “sorry” for errors they committed.
“Our Governor shows he is a complete symbol of humility. He was criticised by the ruling APC for hosting the South West PDP rally to welcome defectors from ADC, APC, ZLP to PDP.
Mr Oke said the APC opined that the timing was wrong due to the world ravaging corona virus disease which has been killing people especially in countries with less than 26 degree temperature.
Yet, our Governor owned up to his error, regretted it and said the golden five letter word ” Sorry “. This word have caused nation to wage war against nation. It has settled age long dispute, kept relationship together just as it has broken many.
“Sorry” shouldn’t be too difficult to say. Wise people say sorry even they are right. Say it today to someone or people you wronged before and see the magic of the word “sorry”.
Governor Makinde has truly showed love and proved that he’s humble. May God bless our Governor, “he added.
