BREAKING: LAUTECH Medical Student Wins 2018 World Maritime Essay Competition
A student of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, LAUTECH, Ogbomoso has been selected among the top ten essayists in the country organized by Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
According to reports, about 10,000 students participated in the competition in which 10 were only selected.
The student, Oladeji Olushina Ololade who came fifth in the competition is a 200 level student from the Department of Medicine, LAUTECH.
He was selected alongside other Nine students from University of Ibadan, Ekpoma, UNILAG, Abu Zaria, Nigerian Army University and Federal College of Forestry.
World Maritime essay competition is an annual contest for all second year undergraduates in Nigeria.
The topic for the 2018 edition is IMO 70: Our Heritage – Better Shipping for a Better Future.
Speaking with Mouthpiece NG, Ololade narrated what he went through before he finally submitted his entry.
He said: “I submitted my entry alongside my admission letter and identity card on 25th February. I got notified after some months that I was part of the top ten in the country and was told to get a Letter of Introduction from my school (LAUTECH).
“A few months later, I received a mail that the top twelve in Nigeria were chosen and each of us would need to scan and submit a hand written essay on an A4 paper. This was the most trying moment as the mail was received at a very busy time due to exams. In fact, I submitted my entry less than three minutes to the deadline. I could not sleep until I received a confirmatory message around 1:00AM.
“To the glory of God, I was eventually ranked fifth in Nigeria. Six out of the top ten essayists are from the South West, University of Ibadan has four of them including the first and second. Below is a breakdown of the top 10 essayists and their respective institutions. I am proud to have represented my school, I believe there’s much more to come.
“To end with, I hereby, implore everyone to be an epitome of positivity in whatever he or she does because a good name is better than even diamonds.
