Nuclear authority names LAUTECH into steering committee, Appoints institution’s don as Chairperson

The Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) has named the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, into what it termed high level Steering Committee.

A letter dated January 25, 2019, and signed by the Director General of the Authority, Professor L. A. Dim, said the NNRA is working with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to establish a National Strategy for Education and Training in Radiation, Transport and Waste Safety in Nigeria in order to build a sustainable education and training infrastructure for education training on radiation, transport and waste safety in Nigeria.
He, in announcing the appointment of a renowned LAUTECH Professor of Radiation and Health Physics, Professor (Mrs) Margaret Akinloye, as the Chairman of the committee, described her as an expert in the field of nuclear safety and radiation protection.
Terms of reference of the Committee according to the letter include:To develop National Strategy for Education and Training in Radiation; Transport and Waste in Nigeria, to assess the training needs for job categories in radiation, transport and waste in Nigeria; to design and develop national training programmes and their implementation strategies;  to develop monitoring and evaluation programmes of national strategy for education and training using performance indicators for each step of the process; as well as to complete the IAEA self-assessment questionnaire for Education and training; and to make pertinent recommendations regarding the effective implementation of the national strategy.
