Onijo Celebrates Saki’s Forgotten Heroes, Highlights Their Contributions To Community Development

The chairmanship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, APM, in Saki West Local Government Area, Barr. Lateef Abiola Sarafadeen, popularly known as Onijo, on Monday celebrated Saki’s forgotten heroes, highlighting their invaluable contributions to the growth and development of the Saki community.

The event, held at IPMAN Hall, Isale Taba In Saki, brought together community leaders, elders, youth groups, and residents to honour individuals whose sacrifices and service have shaped the town but have largely gone unrecognised over the years.

Speaking at the event, Onijo said the celebration was aimed at putting a spotlight on unsung men and women who worked tirelessly to build schools, markets, health centres, and other critical infrastructure in Saki.

According to him, the progress being witnessed in the town today would not have been possible without the selfless efforts of these community builders.

“Saki is where it is today because of the sweat, wisdom and commitment of our forgotten heroes. They may not have held big titles, but their impact is written all over this community,” he said.

Onijo added that if elected as chairman, his administration would institutionalize annual recognition for community heroes and ensure their legacies are documented for younger generations.

The APM chairmanship hopeful also used the occasion to canvass support for the party’s candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He urged the people of Saki to mobilize massively for the APM presidential candidate, Governor Seyi Makinde, the governorship candidate, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, Oyo North Senatorial candidate, Hon. Shina Peller, the Reps candidate for Saki West/Saki East/Atisbo Federal Constituency, Hon. Niyi Adebisi, and the House of Assembly candidate, Hon. Salaudeen Kabir.

Onijo described the APM candidates as tested leaders with the capacity to deliver good governance and attract development to Oke-Ogun zone.

“We need leaders who understand our challenges and are ready to work. APM presents that alternative. From the presidency to the local government, we must vote for leaders who will put the people first,” he said.

Traditional rulers and community leaders present at the event commended Onijo for the initiative, describing it as a timely reminder to appreciate those who laid the foundation for modern Saki.

They prayed for his success in the forthcoming local government election and urged residents to support credible candidates who have the interest of the community at heart.

The event featured cultural performances, goodwill messages, and the presentation of awards to some of the honoured heroes and their families.
