One Reportedly Killed, Another Injured As Man Attacks MAKPOLY Students In Saki, Then Takes His Own Life

A 38-year-old man identified as Tobi was found dead on Friday night in Saki after allegedly stabbing two students of Michael Koleoso Polytechnic, MAKPOLY, formerly The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic.

One of the students died, while the other is receiving treatment for severe injuries.

MOUTHPIECE NIGERIA gathered that Tobi, an indigene of Saki, lived in his grandmother’s house with some polytechnic students.

A source who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said the incident occurred around midnight on Friday.

She narrated that Tobi forced open the door of an HND 1 student, Oluwaferanmi Babayomi, and attacked her with a cutlass, adding that she sustained injuries to her head, arm and ribs.

According to her, she was admitted to Baptist Medical Center, Saki on Saturday and is awaiting transfer to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital.

The second victim, who was said to be in Saki to do her Industrial Training with her sister, was also allegedly killed in the attack.

Another student in the same house, who had stepped out, however raised the alarm and alerted operatives of the Amotekun Corps.

Sources said Tobi used pot covers as improvised shields to prevent his apprehension and urged the security personnel to shoot him.

Moments later, he reportedly went into another student’s room, broke through the ceiling and hanged himself with a DSTV cable.

The surviving student is said to be in hospital, but treatment has been hampered by lack of funds. Family and well-wishers have called for urgent public support to enable her continued care.

As at the time of filling this report, the Oyo State Police Command and Amotekun Corps are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
