The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has officially published the name of Jimoh Adisa Olabisi, popularly known as JAO, as the candidate of the Allied People’s Movement, APM, for the Oorelope State House of Assembly seat in the forthcoming election.

According to the list pasted on INEC’s notification board, other parties including the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Social Democratic Party, SDP, Accord, and the People’s Redemption Party, PRP, also have their candidates clearly listed for the Oorelope constituency.

However, the name of the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate remains conspicuously missing from the commission’s board.

As at the time of filing this report, INEC is yet to confirm or publish the actual candidate of the APC for the Oorelope State Assembly seat. 

Party insiders and political observers believe the delay may be connected to irregularities and unresolved disputes that trailed the party’s primary election in the local government.

The development, MOUTHPIECE NGR understands, has thrown the APC in Oorelope into confusion, with members of the party expressing concern over what they described as a leadership failure to resolve internal crisis ahead of the election. 

Some party faithful fear that the continued delay could affect the party’s chances at the polls, especially as other parties have already commenced grassroots mobilization with their confirmed candidates.

Efforts to get a reaction from the APC leadership in the state were unsuccessful as of press time. 

INEC officials, however, said the commission would only publish names of candidates that were properly nominated and submitted in line with the Electoral Act.

The Oorelope State Assembly seat has become a keenly contested position, with analysts noting that the absence of an APC candidate on the INEC list could give rival parties, particularly APM, ADC and SDP, a major advantage in the race.

Political stakeholders in the area are now watching closely to see whether the APC will resolve its internal issues and submit a candidate before INEC’s deadline, or risk losing ground in one of its traditional strongholds.
