Falana to Defend Man Charged With Forging Tinubu Appointment Letter
Human rights lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, will defend Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, who faces federal charges of conspiracy, forgery, impersonation and using alleged forged presidential documents, sources familiar with the case said.
Adeyemi is accused of forging a presidential appointment letter purportedly issued by President Bola Tinubu and signed by Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, according to an eight-count charge filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja. Prosecutors also allege he forged State House letterheads and documents related to a body he called the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.
The government said the council does not exist and that Adeyemi was never appointed. It also charged two other suspects identified only as Femi and Anu, who remain at large.
Adeyemi has denied the charges. He previously alleged that Gbajabiamila demanded ₦400 million and another ₦200 million to facilitate his appointment, plus 48% of a proposed ₦27.4 billion take-off grant. He called for an independent panel and forensic examination of documents signed by the Chief of Staff.
The Presidency said Wednesday that investigations by the Office of the Chief of Staff, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Office of the National Security Adviser and Nigeria Police Force found no record of Adeyemi’s appointment. It said the police traced the case to a petition from the Chief of Staff’s office after alleged forged appointment letters with fake signatures, seals and reference numbers were discovered.
Police said Adeyemi was arrested Oct. 27, 2025, at an Abuja office where he was allegedly operating as director-general of the purported council. He lists his address as the second floor of the Federal Secretariat Complex, Abuja, according to the charge sheet.
