Remi Tinubu’s Business Advice Not Aimed at ‘Yahoo Boys’ or Obi Supporters
ABUJA — A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ayekooto Akindele, says First Lady Oluremi Tinubu’s recent business advice was directed at low-income Nigerians, not internet fraudsters or supporters of 2027 presidential hopeful Peter Obi.
In a viral video last week, Mrs. Tinubu advised women on small-scale enterprises, citing examples such as frying akara, selling roasted corn and kulikuli.
The remarks drew criticism online, with some Nigerians accusing the First Lady of downplaying youth unemployment.
Responding Saturday on X, Akindele defended Mrs. Tinubu. He said the businesses she mentioned “are patronized daily by virtually every home in Nigeria.”
“Even the yahoo boys and Obidients who are lamenting eat one or two of these items daily. But they see it as too low for them. They want to sell cars like Coscharis, Lanre Shittu or Elizade,” he wrote.
“Fortunately, they’re not the ones Mama was referring to. Mama was talking to those on or under the poverty line, who want to retain their dignity while earning a livelihood without sleeping with strangers at motels or duping foreigners on the internet. There’s dignity in lawful labour,” Akindele added.
