Gbajabiamila: FG to Review N70,000 Minimum Wage Amid Rising Cost of Living
Chief of Staff to the President Femi Gbajabiamila says the Federal Government will review the N70,000 minimum wage approved in 2024, saying it no longer reflects current economic realities.
Speaking Thursday in Abuja at an event organized by Working People United, Gbajabiamila said the wage “must be honestly reassessed against today’s realities.”
“I can confirm that when the time comes to begin the review process, this administration will approach it not as an adversary of labour, but as a partner,” he said.
Gbajabiamila added that President Bola Tinubu believes workers “deserve a fair and commensurate wage” and urged labour leaders to choose dialogue over confrontation.
“Good governance is not a performance staged by government for a passive audience. It is a partnership between those who govern and those who are governed. Nowhere is that partnership more vital than between government and the working people of Nigeria,” he said.
He called on organized labour to remain “partners in progress rather than antagonists in perpetuity.”
