Oyo Lawmaker Bisi Oluranti Condemns Oriire Abduction, Attack on Immigration Office

Hon. Bisi Oluranti Micheal, lawmaker representing Ogbomoso North State Constituency, has condemned the abduction of about 46 children and staff in Oriire Local Government Area and the attack on the Nigeria Immigration Service office in Ogbomoso on Tuesday night, during which firearms were allegedly carted away.

Speaking with MOUTHPIECE NGR shortly after presenting a Matter of Urgent Public Importance on the floor of the Oyo State House of Assembly on Wednesday, Bisi-Oluranti expressed concern over rising insecurity in Oyo State, particularly in the Ogbomoso zone.

She stated that she is burdened by the challenges facing her constituents.

Recall that on the 15th of last month, about 46 children and teachers were abducted by armed men in Yawoata and Esiele in broad daylight.

The latest incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Immigration office along the Ogbomoso–Ilorin Expressway, near an NNPC filling station. Assailants stormed the facility while commercial activities were ongoing at the nearby Ayanyan Cattle Market.

Officers on duty were reportedly overpowered and dispossessed of their firearms. The number of weapons taken has not been confirmed. The attackers fled under the cover of darkness.

The lawmaker said: “I’m still in pain over the sad incident. The current realities facing many Ogbomoso residents paint a troubling picture. Families are living in fear, farmers are increasingly reluctant to visit their farms, business owners are struggling to stay afloat, and parents are worried about the safety and future of their children.

“This is not a time for a blame game among politicians but a time for everyone to come together to ensure the prompt arrest of those responsible,”

The lawmaker urged the Police, Nigeria Immigration Service, and other security agencies to work assiduously to ensure the prompt arrest of the perpetrators and recovery of the stolen firearms.

While commending the Oyo State Government under Governor Seyi Makinde for efforts toward securing the release of the 46 children and teachers abducted in Oriire, she called for a collaborative task team to strengthen coordination and enhance efforts to arrest all persons involved in the Oriire abduction and the Immigration office attack.
