SMATO Clinches APM Ticket for Ogooluwa/Surulere Reps Seat, Eyes Second Term
The lawmaker representing Ogooluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency, Hon. Sunday Makanjuola, popularly known as SMATO, on Thursday, emerged as the candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) for the 2027 general elections.
SMATO was returned unopposed during the party’s primary election held at Iresadu, Surulere Local Government, where delegates from wards across the federal constituency unanimously endorsed him for another term in the National Assembly.
The exercise attracted a large turnout of party faithful, political associates, community leaders, youth groups, and women representatives. APM officials described the primary as peaceful, transparent, and a strong vote of confidence in the lawmaker’s leadership and performance.
With the party ticket secured, SMATO will now seek a second term in the House of Representatives on the platform of the APM.
Announcing the result, the returning officer declared SMATO duly elected, noting that he fulfilled all constitutional and electoral requirements of the party.
Speaking shortly after his emergence, SMATO expressed appreciation to delegates, party leaders, and supporters for the confidence reposed in him. He described the consensus candidature as a reflection of unity and a collective commitment to sustaining quality representation in the constituency.
“I am deeply humbled by this overwhelming show of love and confidence from our party leaders, delegates, and the good people of Ogooluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency,” he said
“This victory is not for me alone; it belongs to all our supporters and constituents who have stood by us over the years.”
He added that the endorsement would further motivate him to continue delivering people-oriented representation and attracting more developmental projects to the constituency.
SMATO, however, urged party members to remain united, focused, and committed ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that collective effort would be required to secure victory for the APM at all levels.
