The former Commissioner for Works and Transport in Oyo State, Professor Abdul-Rahman Raphael Afonja, popularly known as PARA, has felicitated with the Olubadan of Ibadanland, His Royal Majesty Oba Akinloye Olalere Owolabi Olakulehin, on the occasion of his 90th birthday and the first anniversary of his ascension to the throne.

In a goodwill message, Prof. Afonja who is also celebrating his birthday today, June 5, joined the Oyo State Government, the Olubadan-in-Council, the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), and the sons and daughters of Ibadanland to honour the revered monarch who has continued to serve as a symbol of unity and tradition.

Oba Olakulehin, born on July 5, 1935, was crowned the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland on July 12, 2024, at the historic Mapo Hall in Ibadan, following years of dedicated service and progression through the traditional chieftaincy line.

Speaking on the monarch’s milestone, Prof. Afonja described the Olubadan as “a custodian of culture and an embodiment of wisdom,” who has contributed immensely to the peace and development of Ibadanland.

“It is with great pride and honor that I shared same birthday with our father, His Royal Majesty, Oba Akinloye Olalere Owolabi Olakulehin.

Kabiyesi, May your reign be long and prosperous. May the blessings of the ancestors be with you as you continue to lead with strength and dignity,” Afonja stated.
