Oyo Deputy Governor Faults National Boundary Commission Over Interstate Boundary Dispute

The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barr. Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, has accused the National Boundary Commission (NBC) over the lingering crisis along the Oyo/Osun interstate boundary, particularly in the Iwo/Lagelu area.

He urged the commission to expedite action in resolving the issue amicably as soon as possible.

Speaking at a joint meeting facilitated by the NBC in Osogbo, Barr. Lawal accused the commission of precipitating the crisis due to lack of attention, which he believes contributed to the recent incident.

He also faulted the NBC for allowing the age-long boundary dispute to result in significant property losses.

To ensure lasting peace, Barr. Lawal advocated for a thorough examination of historical, administrative, and chieftaincy evidence.

He requested that the commission schedule a date to review the submitted documents and allow the parties to present their cases in Abuja.

The meeting, attended by traditional leaders and security agencies, aimed to find a lasting solution to the border dispute.

The Osun State Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, expressed optimism that the joint meeting would resolve the issue.

The police also directed the release of detained individuals and warned against the use of non-conventional security officers for arrests.
