LPPC Shortlists 72 Candidates For 2025 SAN Title
The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has officially released the shortlist of candidates for the 2025 conferment of the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
A total of 72 legal professionals, made up of 57 advocates and 15 academics, have successfully advanced to the final selection stage.
This was disclosed in a public notice signed by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and LPPC Secretary, Mr Kabir Akanbi.
He explained that all shortlisted candidates were subjected to six thorough stages of screening, including filtration exercises for advocates and academics, appeals hearings, as well as law office inspections.
Akanbi emphasised that these processes were designed to uphold the SAN title as a mark of distinction, leadership, and integrity in Nigeria’s legal profession.
Among the notable names on the advocates’ list are Theophilus Esan Kolawole, Ernest Chikwendu Ikeji, Victor Esiri Akpoguma, Leslie Akujuobi Njemanze, Akintola Wilson Adewale, Preye Agedah, Hannibal Egbe Uwaifo, Olumide Ekisola, and Achienike Godwin William-Wobodo.
The list comprises practitioners from different regions of the country.
On the academic side, distinguished legal scholars such as Prof. John Alewo Agbonika, Prof. Nlerum Sunday Okogbule, Prof. Najeem Adeyemi Ijaiya, Prof. Violet Aigbokhaevbo, and Prof. Chimajosephat Ubanyionwu made the shortlist for their outstanding contributions to legal research, teaching, and publications.
The LPPC has also invited the general public to submit comments, objections, or petitions regarding the character, competence, or reputation of any shortlisted candidate.
According to the notice, such submissions must be backed by a sworn affidavit before a Superior Court of Record or a Notary Public.
All complaints are to be sent in 20 hard copies to the LPPC Secretariat by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, July 14, 2025. Alternatively, electronic copies can be sent to [email protected] and [email protected].
Following this public input period and final committee deliberations, the list of successful SAN honourees will be officially announced later in the year.
