Fubara receives new condition to prevent impeachment
Suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara is currently facing a daunting challenge, as he is under pressure to avoid impeachment amidst rumors of a possible return to office on June 12. In a public statement, Chief Tony Okocha, the Rivers State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), said Fubara has been neglecting peace initiatives in the wake of ongoing political turmoil.
According to Punch report, Okocha said there are currently no reconciliation efforts taking place and emphasized that only sincere attempts can save Fubara from impeachment, particularly in light of a Supreme Court ruling on the matter.
Okocha dismissed rumors of Fubara potentially defecting to the APC as a ploy to evade accountability, insisting that proper political protocols must be adhered to.
He emphasized that Fubara’s suspension results from alleged misconduct rather than any political motivations, referencing the Supreme Court’s declaration that effectively stated there was no operational government in Rivers State. He noted that former Governor Nyesom Wike has also criticized Fubara’s leadership.
