2027: Tension as APC plots Shettima’s removal
The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that President Bola Tinubu is at liberty to choose his running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Felix Morka, the party spokesperson, said this while reacting to the claim that Abdullahi Ganduje resigned from his position as APC National Chairman because the president has perfected plans to choose Rabiu Kwankwaso as his running mate in 2027.
Morka who spoke on Channels Television described such reports as speculative.
He said that decision on such matter as who become a vice presidential candidate would be made by the party’s flagbearer.
Morka noted that at the right time, things would unfold and the peesisenr would speak on the issue of his running mate for the next election.
“The President is at liberty to speak at any moment on any issue. He has not spoken, so people will speculate. But we cannot act based on speculation,” Morka said.
Recall that Ganduje had earlier resigned from his position as National Chairman of the ruling party.
The former party chairman cited ill-health and other urgent personal matters as his reason for resigning.
However, political permutations by several quarters suggest that the former APC chairman only paved way for the vice presidential candidacy of Kwankwaso with his resignation.
MOUTHPIECE NGR reports that there are indications that President Bola Tinubu may opt for Rabi’u Kwankwaso, to replace current Vice President Kashim Shettima in 2027.
But was gathered from very reliable source in Abuja that this may have contributed to the reasons why Abdullahi Ganduje, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) did not endorse Vice President Shettima at the recent stakeholders’ meeting in Gombe State last Sunday.
A source close to the party told our correspondent that the choice of Kwankwaso has received strong backing amongst some party stakeholders to help seal Tinubu’s chances in the 2027 presidential election.
The source, who refused to put his name in print, said negotiations were on, adding that “Kwankwaso is being wooed to return to the party and has visited the President. But we need him to join early enough.
