Ukwa La Ngwa Bloc Reaffirms Support for Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu

The Ukwa La Ngwa bloc in Abia State, Nigeria, has issued a communiqué reaffirming their identity, unity, and support for Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, the bloc’s leader and former Governor of Abia State.

The political group in a communique issued on Tuesday rejected attempts to distort or diminish Dr. Ikpeazu’s contributions to Abia’s development, emphasizing that his administration laid the groundwork for many current projects and policies.

They also cautioned against historical revisionism and urged Dr. Ikpeazu to rise above past events and re-engage with leadership and purpose.

The bloc however pledged to defend their legacy, engage robustly in political discourse, and resist tokenism.

The communique read:

“Title: Reclaiming Our Voice, Rewriting the Narrative, Ukwa La Ngwa Reaffirms Its Place in Abia’s Political History

Following the successful Ukwa La Ngwa Stakeholders’ Convergence, held at Umuobiakwa Village the country home of our leader, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu PhD, to deliberate on the political direction and historical identity of our people, we, the leaders and stakeholders of the nine Local Government Areas that make up the Ukwa La Ngwa bloc, hereby issue this communiqué as both a position and a warning, a reminder that we are neither silent nor forgotten.

Contrary to the emerging narrative aimed at erasing our contributions and redefining the trajectory of Abia State governance, we stand resolute in defense of the truth, our identity, and our legacy.

1. On the Legacy of Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu

We categorically reject all attempts to distort, diminish, or delegitimize the contributions of Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, whose administration laid the groundwork for many of the policies and projects currently being appropriated and repackaged. Dr. Ikpeazu’s tenure reflected visible infrastructural strides, youth empowerment initiatives, industrial development, and administrative reforms, all of which are part of the continuum of Abia’s progress.

Governance did not begin in 2023. To push such a narrative is to indulge in historical amnesia and belittle the collective sacrifice and intelligence of Ndi Abia.

2. On the Misrepresentation of Current Realities

The perceived “miracle” of present-day governance is largely built upon pre-existing foundations, including improved federal allocations(credit to the removal of petroleum subsidies) and institutional reforms initiated under the APC-led Federal Government. Ironically, some of the same voices now loud in praise were once harshest in criticism.

It is therefore both politically and morally unacceptable to weaponize propaganda against previous administrations for short-term gain.

3. On the Identity and Integrity of Ukwa La Ngwa

Ukwa La Ngwa is not a political identity worn for convenience during election seasons. It is a deeply rooted heritage, a fusion of ancestral lineage, cultural mandate, and political responsibility. Those who identify with it must live up to its expectations, not exploit it.

We caution against the use of our name to pursue opportunistic ambitions that betray the collective struggle and aspirations of our people.

4. On Our Political Leadership and Unity Moving Forward

We reaffirm our collective resolution and decision that our brother, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, the immediate past Governor of Abia State and, to date, the first and only governor of Ukwa La Ngwa extraction, must put behind him the events of the 2023 election and all related developments, especially those that did not serve the best interests of our people. That chapter, though painful, must not define our future. We urge him to rise above the past and re-engage with the renewed spirit of leadership and purpose.

We also reaffirm, without hesitation, that he remains our leader, our rallying point, and the enduring symbol of Ukwa La Ngwa political aspiration. Regardless of the circumstances or setbacks of the past, our confidence in him is unshaken and our loyalty undivided. We urge him to continue to provide direction and leadership to his people. At both the national and state levels, he remains our political compass, rudder and roadmap. Where he leads, we will follow. His journey is our journey; his voice, our collective voice.

5. On the Way Forward

We reaffirm our unity and readiness to protect and promote the interests of the Ukwa La Ngwa people. Our bloc is neither fractured nor fatigued. We are reawakened, and our silence must never be mistaken for surrender.

Going forward:

i. We shall engage more robustly in political discourse at both state and national levels.

ii. We shall resist any form of historical revisionism and defend the truth with facts, records, and collective memory.

iii. We shall strengthen internal solidarity among our nine LGAs to ensure we do not become victims of political tokenism.

This is not merely a political statement, this is a declaration of identity, unity, and resolve.

Ukwa La Ngwa is wide awake. The truth is no longer silent. History is not asleep And our people are watching.
