Rivers administrator restores Wike’s name on admin block

According to Viable TV on Tuesday 29 April, 2025 The Rivers State Local Government Administrator has reversed a previous decision to rename the Admin Block at the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area Secretariat, restoring the name of former Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike. This move comes amid an ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, which has seen tensions rise between Wike and his successor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The Admin Block which was initially been renamed “Dr. Obi Wali House” by the council’s former chairman, Chijioke Ihunwo, an ally of Governor Fubara. Ihunwo whom accused Wike of stoking unrest in the area and dared anyone to challenge his decision. However, the new administrator, Dr. Ndu Walter, has overturned this decision, restoring Wike’s name to the block.

This development is seen as a significant shift in the political landscape of Rivers State. The renaming of the Admin Block had been viewed as a symbolic move to diminish Wike’s influence in the state. However, with the restoration of his name, it appears that Wike’s legacy remains intact.

The political crisis in Rivers State has been ongoing for some time, with Governor Fubara and Wike engaging in a battle for control of the state’s political structure. President Bola Tinubu had earlier suspended Governor Fubara in March and appointed Retired Vice Admiral Ibok Ete Ibas as the new Sole Administrator to take over leadership in the state.

As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how this latest development will impact the political dynamics in Rivers State. One thing is certain, however: the restoration of Wike’s name to the Admin Block is a significant victory for his supporters and a blow to Governor Fubara’s efforts to assert his authority.
