Oyo, Ondo Govs, Southwest Leaders Converge on Ilesa for Owa Obokun’s Coronation

The coronation of Oba Clement Adesuyi Haastrup, Ajimoko III, as the 41st Owa Obokun and paramount ruler of Ijesaland, was held in Ilesa, Osun State, on Friday. 

The event drew prominent personalities, including Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, represented by his Deputy, Barr. Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, and Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State.

Other dignitaries in attendance included former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President Namadi Sambo, and several former governors, such as Rauf Aregbesola, Gbenga Daniel, and Gboyega Oyetola. 

The celebration was marked by a significant security presence, with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other security agencies ensuring the safety of attendees.

Traditional and community leaders from across Southwest Nigeria also attended, including the Aare Ona Kakanfo, Gani Adams, Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, and Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Olusola Alao.

In his appreciation, Oba Haastrup expressed gratitude to all who attended, pledging to contribute to the development of Ijesha land through its abundant natural and mineral resources. 

He highlighted his past achievements, including empowering students with scholarships, promoting agriculture, and improving infrastructure in the palace.

The monarch however pledged a donation of a sum of one billionaira (N1bn) for the development of Ijesha land.
