Oyo Lawmakers Call for Enhanced Hotel, Restaurant Security Measures
Hon. Bisi Oluranti Michael, the lawmaker representing Ogbomoso North State Constituency, has co-sponsored a motion urging the Oyo State Government to implement stringent regulations and security measures in hotels, restaurants, and guest houses across the state.
This call aims to curb abductions, fraudulent activities, and ensure guest safety.
The motion, co-sponsored with Hon. W.K. Akintayo, highlights the growing concern over criminal activities in hotel establishments across Nigeria.
Notable cases, such as the tragic incident of Timothy Adegoke in Osun State and Cynthia Osokogu in Lagos, underscore the need for comprehensive security measures.
A recent case in Ibadan, where a guest’s whereabouts became unknown after checking into a hotel, further emphasizes the importance of enhanced security protocols.
The lawmakers noted that unchecked criminal activities not only endanger lives but also tarnish Oyo State’s hospitality industry reputation, discouraging tourism and legitimate business engagements.
To address these concerns, the House urged the Executive Arm of Government, through the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, to:
1. Enforce mandatory registration of hotels and lodging facilities with the Government.
2. Implement standardized guest registration processes, including valid identification verification and maintenance of up-to-date guest logs.
3. Install and maintain functional surveillance cameras covering common areas, entrances, and exit points.
These measures aim to ensure guest safety, prevent criminal activities, and promote a secure environment for tourism and business in Oyo State.
