Makinde’s Administration Needs Your Support, Edu Commissioner Tells Tertiary Institution Heads

The Oyo State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola, has called on the Heads of State-owned tertiary institutions to strengthen their collaboration with the government in order to advance the education sector.

Hon. Olayiwola made the appeal during a courtesy visit by the Heads of the ten State-owned tertiary institutions to his office in Ibadan.

He noted that Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration has made significant investments in the civil and public service, including the recent employment of about 23,000 personnel across various sectors, all of whom are being paid promptly. He emphasized that cooperation and synergy among stakeholders are crucial for sustained progress in the education sector.

“The government is doing its part, but for us to achieve more, all hands must be on deck. We need your full cooperation and continued partnership,” he stated.

The Commissioner assured the delegation that the Ministry would take up their concerns, ranging from staffing issues and land disputes to road rehabilitation and the implementation of minimum wage with the Governor for urgent consideration.

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs. Bamidele Oyinloye, praised the longstanding cordial relationship between the Ministry and the Heads of tertiary institutions, describing it as productive and seamless.

Speaking on behalf of the institution heads, the Coordinator and Provost of the College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora, Prof. Akinwole Akinlabi, commended the State Government for the recent increase in subvention to tertiary institutions. He, however, urged the government to do more to ensure its investments yield visible improvements across the education sector.

Other Heads of the ten State-owned tertiary institutions present at the meeting included: Prof. Akinwole Akinlabi, (College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora); Mrs. Oluyemisi Oyewo, (Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology, Eleyele, Ibadan); Mr. M. A. Ashimolowo, (representing the Rector, The Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki); Prof. Olatunde Salau, (Emmanuel Alayande University of Education); Dr. Gbonjubola Owolabi, (Oyo State College of Nursing, Eleyele, Ibadan); Dr. Tunde Ojukunle, (representing the Vice Chancellor, Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomoso); Dr. Benson Oladipupo ( Acting Provost , Oyo State College of Education, Lanlate); and Dr. Taiwo Lasisi, (Acting Rector, The Polytechnic, Ibadan) among others.
