2nd-Year-Anniversary: Oyo LG Chairmen Hail Gov Makinde’s Performance
Local Government Chairmen across Oyo State have poured encomiums on Governor Seyi Makinde as he marks the second year of his second term in office, praising what they described as a record of transformational governance in the past 365 days.
In a statement jointly issued by the Chairman of the Forum of Oyo State Local Government Chairmen, Hon. Sikiru Sanda, and the Forum’s Spokesperson, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, the chairmen expressed profound satisfaction with the Governor’s achievements, describing his leadership as visionary, pragmatic, and deeply committed to the welfare of the people.
They noted that Governor Makinde’s administration has sustained a trajectory of progress that has touched every facet of the state’s development. From massive infrastructure development and economic expansion to significant improvements in education, health care, youth empowerment, and civil service welfare, the chairmen said the Governor’s performance in the past year alone rivals what many administrations have struggled to achieve in a full term.
According to the Forum, Makinde’s focus on infrastructural renewal has not only enhanced connectivity within the state but also spurred economic activities in rural and urban areas. They commended the Governor’s bold steps in energizing the economy through agribusiness hubs, energy projects, and strategic investments that have boosted the state’s internally generated revenue without overburdening citizens with new taxes.
The chairmen also lauded the administration’s achievements in the education sector, citing the recruitment of teachers, investment in school infrastructure, and reforms in tertiary institutions as proof of the Governor’s long-term vision for human capital development. They said these efforts have been complemented by the training and empowerment of thousands of young people, which has helped to reduce unemployment and youth restiveness.
In the area of governance, the Forum praised the Governor’s worker-friendly policies, including the prompt payment of salaries and improved gratuity payments, noting that his administration has shown rare empathy for both civil servants and pensioners. The Governor’s approach to economic recovery was also acknowledged as timely and impactful in alleviating the burdens of vulnerable citizens.
Security, which is often understated, was equally highlighted, with the chairmen commending the Governor’s continued support for local and state security outfits, which they said has helped to maintain peace and order across the state.
Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo, speaking on behalf of the Forum, described Governor Makinde as “a leader whose actions consistently align with the hopes and aspirations of the people.” He stated that the local government chairmen remain firmly behind the Governor and are committed to supporting his agenda for the continued growth and development of Oyo State.
He added that the last two years of Makinde’s second term have been marked by purposeful leadership. “Governor Makinde has proven, once again, that good governance is possible. The people of Oyo State are reaping the rewards of his vision and integrity,” he said.
As Governor Makinde’s second term enters its third year, the Forum expressed confidence that his administration will continue to deliver on its promises and deepen the transformation of Oyo State across all sectors.
