₦80 Billion Approved For Unity Schools Renovation — FG

Kano, Nigeria – The Federal Government has allocated over ₦80 billion for the comprehensive renovation of more than 100 Unity Schools across Nigeria, according to the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Said Ahmad.

Prof. Ahmad disclosed this during her inspection visit to Federal Government College, Kano, where she emphasized the government’s renewed commitment to improving infrastructure and creating a more conducive learning environment in federal unity schools.

The Minister stated that the renovation aligns with the founding vision of Unity Schools — to foster national integration, academic excellence, and equal opportunity for Nigerian students regardless of background.

As part of her tour, Prof. Ahmad interacted with students and teachers to assess the quality of instruction and service delivery. She highlighted the value of regular dialogue between policymakers and school communities in identifying challenges and determining resource priorities.

“We are committed to restoring the dignity and standard of Unity Schools through massive infrastructural upgrades and improved teaching quality,” she said.

Prof. Ahmad also revealed that the Federal Ministry of Education is developing a nationwide digital platform that will offer continuous professional training for teachers.

“This initiative will empower teachers with 24/7 access to modern teaching resources and capacity-building tools, regardless of their location,” she added.

The Minister further visited Federal Government Girls College, Kazaure, where she reaffirmed the government’s intention to ensure that all Unity Schools benefit from consistent and equitable upgrades as part of broader reforms in the education sector.
