SMATO Brings Oko Health Centre to Life with Industrial Solar Mini-Grid Power – Righting the Wrongs of Past Neglect

In a powerful demonstration of people-first leadership, Hon. Ojo Sunday Makanjuola (SMATO), Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Solid Minerals and Member representing Ogo-Oluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency, has facilitated the installation of industrial solar Mini- Grid power at the long-abandoned Oko Community Health Centre—restoring hope, dignity, and access to quality healthcare for thousands.

The health centre, a philanthropic legacy project by Adegoke Samson Adewale (Maigida)—a revered humanitarian and son of Ogbomoso—was built in response to the shameful neglect of the constituency by the then Representative, whose irresponsibility extended even to his own hometown.

For years, Maigida’s noble intervention stood idle, hampered by a critical lack of power supply that rendered the facility inoperable.

Villagers cried out. Lives were lost. And while the facility stood physically present, its lifeline—electricity—remained absent. The community’s pleas were met with silence from those who had the mandate to act.

That silence has now been broken.

Hon. Ojo Sunday Makanjuola, true to his character as a servant-leader, stepped in where others failed. His recent facilitation of industrial solar power has transformed the dormant health centre into a beacon of healthcare excellence. With uninterrupted power supply now in place, the centre is fully functional—capable of running emergency services, maternal care, and even blood preservation units. More so, the surrounding community is now lit up, with the solar network extending light and security to neighbouring households.

“This is more than infrastructure—it is restoration,” said a community youth leader at the site.“Hon. SMATO has not just powered a building. He has powered our faith in leadership again.”

The move is in line with Hon. Makanjuola’s broader vision of sustainable rural development, equity in public service, and efficient use of renewable energy to solve age-long challenges in underserved communities.

His intervention is yet another mark of distinction, adding to his growing legacy of reliable representation, strategic responsiveness, and bold reformism across the constituency and the nation at large.

As the people of Oko Town and beyond begin to experience a new era of accessible healthcare and electrified living, SMATO stands out as the leader who listens, acts, and delivers—where others made excuses

Indeed, with leaders like Hon. Ojo Sunday Makanjuola, the era of excuses is over—and the era of impact has begun.
