Oyo Deputy Gov leads delegation to condole with Olunloyo family

Oyo State Deputy Governor, Barr. Abdul-Raheem Adebayo Lawal, has described the late former Governor of the state, Omololu Olunloyo, as a political icon, and a very kind person.

He equally described his death as the exit of one of Oyo State’s and Nigeria’s most cerebral former administrators.

Leading a top government delegation to pay condolence visit to the family of the late former governor in his Molete on Monday, the Deputy Governor disclosed that the deceased died at the age of 89.

He said that he was shocked to learn of Baba Olunloyo’s passing because, when he spoke with him last week, he was not expecting it to happen anytime soon given his good health. 

According to him, Baba was advanced in age, and looking forward to celebrate his 90th birthday in couple of months until his death. 

The Deputy Governor said: “We are here to commiserate with the family. The truth about the life of Baba Olunloyo is the uniqueness. The unique personalities in many ways. Intellectually, he was a person to beat. Secondly, he was a political icon and an administrator per excellence and also a beacon of hope to so many people.”

Barr. Lawal narrated that Baba Olunloyo took a very strong decisive position when the issue of Chieftaincy happen way back in western state in 1983 which according to him, has shaped the relationship of Alaafin of Oyo and other traditional rulers.

He equally noted that the late former governor was a lover of education, stressing that he put the polytechnic of Ibadan on the pedestal that it is today and the trajectory that is being followed by succeeding administrators. 

He added that Governor Seyi Makinde would announce soon how he want the late Dr. Olunloyo to be immortalized.

Special prayers were offered for the repose of the soul of the political icon by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade and a renowned Islamic Scholar, Kk Oloso. 

On the entourage of the Deputy Governor were Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Olanike Kudirat Adeyemo; Head of Service (HOS), Olubunmi Oni; Commissioner For Justice, Abiodun Aikomo; Commissioner for Lands, Williams Akin-Funmilayo, Commissioner for Special Duties, Joke Sanni; Chief Press Secretary, Sulaiman Olanrewaju; Chairman Civil Service Commission, Qamorudeen Aderibigbe, and host of others.
